Subvertising

Advertising is a disease that knows no boundaries
Adbusters

Consumerism. The world we live in. If I ask you to name first five things that come to your mind, I bet all five associations will be negative.
Well, at least mine are: abundance, artificial needs, never enough, manipulation, pseudo-individualism.
To tell the truth, my next five are no better.
So no wonder that people are trying to resist. Cultural resistance is a way to recognize and oppose all the ways in which advanced capitalism shapes how people act, think, dress, work, play and consume. "It is the act of confronting this hegemonic and soulless system by turning it's own aesthetic and memetic tools against it"(homelanddrifter.com).
One of the most common practices of cultural resistance is subvertising. The slideshow I have made two years ago will talk about its features, also offering some bright examples of what has been done (ad jammed, memes hacked).
